Doņa Elsa Luz Avila de Alfaro, youngest sister of the Avila Magaņa family, proudly follows the tradition of her ancestors as being reponsible for this garden oasis of over 100 hectares of gorgeous bourbon coffee nutured by the shade of "Inga" trees. El Portezuelo was once part of the lands under Dr. Francisco Magaņa´s supervision, grandfather of Doņa Elsa Luz. He expanded this aromatic gift from earth throughout the lands in Juayua and consolidated Fincas Las Piedras, Tapantugusto, El Diamante and El Portezuelo.
Rich Potable spring water is abundant at the slopes of El Portezuelo, flowing down from the untouched forest atop the hills. Strolling deep inside this centenial tree formation, it is very common to catch a glimpse of the well known butterfly,"morpho peleides" (common blue morpho) and the very unusual species of "morpho polyphemus" (a morpho with semitranslucent white wings).
